Hi Sally here,
I’m Cornish based artist, illustrator, maker, and accidental historian working on personal projects all inspired by my life in beautiful Cornwall, the Cornish scenery and the rich history of this amazing place. I am fascinated by architecture and social history often mixing the two in my colourful creations.
In previous years I had been retracing my Cornish ancestors, visiting the places they lived, worked and were buried. It was an emotional journey, standing in a church where my ancestors stood 200 years previously, looking at a plaque dated 1770 and knowing they would have stood in front of it blows my mind. The research I’ve done has opened a new avenue to explore. I’ve become an Accidental Historian!
In 2023 I began working on a project which I named The Cornish Year, based on a 1926 pamphlet of the same name. Celebrating a slice of Cornish history every day by illustrating an event, a person, an interesting story of Cornish history for each day of the year! The project, which has 720+ posts can be found over on my Instagram page.
This year I am revisiting the project by blogging about several stories I have picked for each month. Check out my blog here.
You can find me online in the links below or just send me a message on my contacts page.
Sally xx
